Food Justice

Earth Care’s Food Justice Program works towards four goals to ensure the future of a sustainable, just, healthy and secure local food system for our community and beyond:

  1. Improve access to healthy local food for working families in Santa Fe through food production and distribution programs targeting low-income residents.
  2. Provide food & nutrition education and outreach to youth and community members in order to increase the demand and consumption of local food, change participant’s food attitudes, eating and cooking habits, and increase participation in growing their own food towards the overall outcome of reducing childhood diabetes and obesity.
  3. Develop a continuum of engagement and workforce preparation opportunities (from service-learning to internships) for youth and young adults ages 5-30 to contribute to food justice.
  4. Build partnerships and capacity to assess more closely the community’s food needs, engage vulnerable populations in the process of filling food gaps, and advocating for policy that supports on-the ground efforts.

Want to be a part of it? Apply for the Food Cadre AmeriCorps Training Program! Applications are accepted from April – June. Training begins in August/September.
