Board Members

Todd Lopez - Board President

Todd was born in Santa Fe. As a Partner and practicing attorney with Lopez & Sakura, LLP, Todd has over 10 years of experience in natural resources issues in the Western United States, with an emphasis in hydrogeology, New Mexico water rights and environmental law. He founded the La Mesita Institute in 2005, a non-profit corporation focusing on land and water resources of northern New Mexico, education, alternative energy and cultural and agricultural revitalization. Todd has served on several Boards including Siete del Norte and the New Mexico Children’s Foundation. He is also a founding colleague of the New Mexico Strategic Leadership Institute, an organization dedicated to long term strengthening of New Mexico community-based advocacy leadership and public policy campaigns in energy, water, land, forestry and economic development. He currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife Suzanne, son Sebastian and daughter Simone.

Nicole Rassmuson - Vice President

Nicole was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Switzerland, Sweden, and the USA. Nicole earned an MA in Communication Design from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London. Nicole founded Eko Design in London in 1997 and completed projects for a variety of clients in the UK and Sweden. She lived and worked in Stockholm and NYC before moving to Santa Fe in 2007 and establishing Rassmuson Design.

Shawn Katz - Board Treasurer

Shawn Katz is Senior Vice President of Rosemont Realty based in Santa Fe. Before joining Rosemont, Shawn was a member of the investment team at Wolf International, an investment management and advisory firm specializing in alternative investments and hedge funds. Shawn is the Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Earth Care. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Taylor Selby

Taylor is the Co-founder and former Executive Director of Earth Care. He currently with Positive Energy, a local solar installation company. He holds a master's in Environment & Community from Antioch University. He has worked as specialist for Paul Hawken, served as the Vice chair for the Permaculture Credit Union, and served for three years as a member of the mayor appointed Sustainable Santa Fe Commission for the City.

Nolan Eskeets - Youth Board Member

Nolan completed our Youth Allies program in 2007, and joins our Board as a Youth Member. He is beginning his sophomore year at UNM and moderates the Santa Fe Indian School's Spoken Word team (recent National Champions!).

Jason Espinoza

A former Earth Care staff member, Jason currently works at Think New Mexico, a results-oriented think tank serving New Mexicans. Jason graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a B.A. in Political Science. He is currently pursuing his Master's degree at the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management to strengthen his knowledge of managing both online and on-the-ground grassroots and legislative advocacy campaigns. Jason is dedicated to increasing the voice of everyday New Mexicans in the political process.

Joe Garcia

Joe Garcia was born in the Albuquerque area and holds a Masters in Horticulture. He has been a strong voice in the Hispanic land grant movement. He runs the Sanchez Farm in the South Valley of Albuquerque and teaches at the University of New Mexico. He is currently completing his PhD in transformative education.

Mercedes Downing - Youth Board Member

Mercedes completed Earth Care's Youth Allies program in 2006, and joins our Board as a Youth Member. She attends Santa Fe High and is an avid member of their Green Team.

Tom Wolinski - Board Secretary

Tom joined the Board in August of 2010. He holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota Graduate School of Management. He founded "The Bean" coffee shops and Taos Roaster's coffee roasting company, which he sold to his partner in 2001. Tom founded "Fiasco Fine Wine" in 2003, a wine, spirits and beer distributor. He has been very involved in supporting local non-profit organizations including donating wine for non-profit events and auctions through Fiasco and organizing successful fundraising events.
